Injection molds are now widely applied across industries. Various colorful injection molds are available on the market. How are injection molds processed and colored in Dongguan? Below is a brief introduction to three commonly used coloring methods in injection molding processing, for your reference.

Injection Molding Processing Coloring Methods

  1. Compound Colorant Coloring Method This is the most precise coloring technology for Dongguan injection molding processing. It can produce accurate, highly repeatable, and well-proportioned colors, and is most suitable for small-batch production. Most commercial plastics are colored directly on injection molding machines, while most engineering plastics are pre-colored when supplied.
  2. Masterbatch Coloring Method Masterbatch is available in pellet and liquid forms, both of which can be formulated into a wide range of colors. Pellet masterbatch is the most widely used. In application, plastic raw materials are mixed with masterbatch, and the mixture or pure masterbatch is fed into the injection molding machine. Its advantages include lower coloring cost, reduced dust pollution, lower raw material expenses, and convenient storage.
  3. Dry Powder Coloring Method This is the lowest-cost coloring method, yet its disadvantages are dust generation and poor on-site cleanliness during operation. To ensure uniform and accurate coloring in production, standard-sized bags or cartons should be used to hold a fixed quantity of dry color powder. When adopting dry powder coloring, the surface of plastic pellets must be evenly coated with colorant, so that the color can disperse uniformly in the molten plastic. Standardized mixing methods and mixing time are required to guarantee consistent coloring. Once the coloring procedure is confirmed, it must be followed strictly. In addition, color powder should be prevented from absorbing moisture during storage; otherwise, it will agglomerate and cause color streaks and patterns on injection molded products.
It is evident that each of the three injection molding coloring methods has its own advantages. Manufacturers shall select the appropriate method according to product requirements, so that the finished products meet quality standards with minimized production costs and maximized economic benefits.
