During injection molding production, the quality of the injection mold directly determines the quality of the final plastic parts. Especially for precision electronic products, the requirements for injection molds are extremely high. Therefore, comprehensive evaluation is necessary when selecting injection molds. So how do we judge the quality of an injection mold?
Four Major Criteria for Evaluating Injection Mold Quality
Firstly, the temperature inside the injection mold is generally high during production. For this reason, the mold steel adopted by manufacturers must be high-temperature tempered mold steel. This ensures that the overall mold dimensions remain stable even under prolonged high-temperature working conditions, thereby guaranteeing the overall precision of the mold.
Secondly, during injection molding, plastic raw materials such as resin and various additives will cause corrosion to the mold surface, which will impair mold precision. Hence, corrosion‑resistant mold steel must be selected.
Plastic products usually require a high surface gloss. Accordingly, the cavity surface of the injection mold must have a low surface roughness to produce qualified plastic parts. It is essential to use mold steel free from impurities and pores. After mold fabrication is completed, the mold cavity surface shall be further processed by polishing, grinding and other finishing treatments.
Lastly, during mass production, plastic materials flow at high speed inside the mold cavity, generating severe friction against the mold surface. Only by adopting wear‑resistant mold steel can stable product quality be maintained throughout long‑term mass injection molding production.
